It must be understandable that every one of us, at least sometimes, have to quickly (or not that quick) turn attention for other issues or, do something in RL. Usually, we all leave the monitor and, probably half of us do minimize game client on screen.. As it was said at the start, it is completely understandable and it must be respected.
Anyway, some number of people do like to park their avatars somewhere and chitchat in IMs with their friends who are far from the sim or, do some other things while keeping SL open, etc... Of course, it has it benefits but, it also causes that players in the sim where you parked the avatar, count you in game and maybe they are waiting for respond or participation.
The other issue is, most of the sims are limited with number of people who can be in same time in the sim... Problem, ha? Mostly, not for one who chitchat with friends in IMs or browse internet while waiting for someone in game but, surely the problem for players who would like to play at the moment or for those who would like to visit the sim...
As we all do expect respect of our time, or the way of speaking to us (blah, blah, blah), we have to respect others as well..
When you are not in a mood to play and/or you are waiting someone to get online or, there is something what must be done in RL before you are able to play again - please, leave the sim and let others play...
Of course, there are moments when you need just a few minutes to finish anything (for example, to use bathroom) and, then you are ready to continue your play... Set the ''away'' or ''busy'' status for your avatar or, if it's in a middle of play as you let know your playing partner about the time you have to be away, you do such and HURRY back :)
Sometimes, you have got carried with play and totally forgot that there is something in RL, you have to do. And, it will take a bit... My suggestion is, let your partner to know what is going on, ask if it is possible to take a break for 5, 10 or even 20 minutes or, in really radical situations even longer. If partner likes the idea to wait for you, why not? And, in such case, it is allowed to make an exception and park avatars where them are... Your partner will be there to inform other players what is going on, your avatar will be set as ''away'' or ''busy'', everyone happy...
Loafing is prohibited in the GSH by rules, so ... You can be busy or away, but "parking" of av and IM chat, this privilege is limited for club admins.
